Nutrition Programs


The NJTL of Trenton has launched an initiative to promote an active and healthy lifestyle through tennis, fitness, healthy eating and nutrition.  The NJTLT hopes to assist in combating the health complications which can significantly reduce or impact the quality of life of the young generation and their family members.  With the help of Capital Health pediatricians, fitness and nutrition partners and local chefs, the NJTLT offers three major components in its dynamic, fun program:  Tennis, Nutrition, and Fitness…for the entire FAMILY!  Sessions typically run 10-12 weeks, 3 days/week, from 6:00-7:30 pm at Capital Health Mercer Campus, Cadwalader Park and other sites.  Family tennis instruction, peer support groups, cooking demonstrations, special field trips, fitness games and nutrition education are provided on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays of each week.

To be effective, the program needs to include family members beyond the youth participant recommended by the doctor.  The parent(s) and/or guardians plus sibling(s) totaling 3-4 members of the family are encouraged to attend and participate regularly…and to practice what we learn at home.

A free nutritional breakfast and/or lunch is served to the NJTLT children during the summer camp at our Trenton sites. A healthy snack is provided prior to each after-school program as well. In addition, children are engaged in regular dialogue about fitness goals by discussing healthy eating habits and proper exercise. Each summer, NJTLT supervisors attend a summer feeding training program.
